They usually lurk in junk drawers, your former cell phones that you no longer have use for and you don’t know quite what to do with. Whatever you do- don’t throw them in the garbage! Cell phones contain all kinds of nasty toxins like arsenic, lead and lithium-ion batteries contain a variety of heavy metals that will seep into the environment. They are also a fire hazard in waste facilities.
Here are some options-
DONATE– Organizations that help victims of domestic violence, overseas military, and medical workers in third world countries are often in need of cell phones. Click HERE for more info. Often they pay for shipping.
GOODWILL DROP OFF– Drop them off at your local Goodwill. They will take care of recycling and donating.
RECYCLE-Take them to an electronics recycling drop-off- often your local recycling depot will have a bin for electronics. Call your local garbage company for details
Remember that your trash can be someone else’s treasure. Keep your cell phone out of the landfill!
